Empowering passengers to speak up for safer roads

Our Kasa For Safety project was selected as a winner for the 2023 D-Prize award.

Kasa for Safety is a road safety behaviour-change initiative that empowers passengers in commercial vehicles to speak up against reckless driving. The campaign recognises that road safety is not only the responsibility of drivers and enforcement agencies. Passengers also have a role to play in creating safer journeys.

Through community engagement, behaviour-change messaging and in-vehicle interventions, Kasa for Safety encourages passengers to politely challenge dangerous driving while helping drivers become more aware of road safety risks.

The initiative was launched in 2024 in partnership with D-Prize, TroTro Diaries, StarOil and other stakeholders. It has engaged commercial drivers and passengers across multiple regions and uses simple, visible messages inside public transport vehicles to encourage safer behaviour.

Our approach:

• Understand the behaviours and motivations of road users

• Engage communities in developing relevant messages

• Test behavioural interventions in real-world environments

• Work with transport operators and institutional partners

• Use digital communities to amplify the conversation

• Generate insights that can inform broader road safety efforts
